It's been a few years ago, but from what I remember it booted up fine the first time I started it (iMac 333, 20 gig drive) in OS X, then did an automatic update that moved some files outside the first 8 gig. After that, I would get the Kernel Panic screen during startup, then after a few more tries I just got the blinking ?. Then I found out about the 8 gig limit. I also recall that it's possible to partition the drive without erasing and reformatting. It simply moved all the files to another portion of the disc. Then I deleted both 9 and X. Next, I installed a fresh copy of 9 in that first partition, followed by X, and everything was fine after that. It just showed up as if it had two hard drives. Mind you, this was at least three years ago, so my memory of this could be a tad fuzzy... I got rid of that iMac two years ago, upgrading to a Snow iMac 500, so it hasn't been an issue since. Maybe at tax time next year, I can afford to upgrade to a nice used eMac, but except for not having a DVD drive, I'm pretty happy with OS X on my Snow iMac. The only reason I even want to upgrade is for a larger screen and a Superdrive, but they are still a tad pricey for my budget right now. But, like I said originally, if it weren't for just one program, I wouldn't bother installing OS 9 at all. I just wish someone would come up with a sound editing program for X that's as easy to use as SoundEdit16!
