Does this actually also effect OS 9?
Unfortunately, I can't say from personal experience, but I can tell you what others have experienced. I frequent the Apple Discussions support forum <http://discussions.info.apple.com/>, and I have heard yes and no. Usually, the user is being kicked into Open Firmware rather then getting the ? disk/folder. Its usually best to do them both inside the 8 GB. Usually, the user has OS X and OS 9, but tries to boot into OS X first, and then they get dumped into OF or the disk/?, and from then on, it happens regardless of what OS they try. On the discussion boards, we usually recommend just wiping the drive and partitioning, then installing both onto the partition.
Interestingly enough, if you are partitioning from the OS X Disk Utility, you should make the partition about 7.43 GB. Apparently, there is an issue with the decimal/binary size. The thread, which also deals with the issue of BOTH OSes in the partition, is here - <http://discussions.info.apple.com/.68ad02cf/1> (You don't need to sign up or anything to read the posts)
