If yours is the same first generation 20 inch 1.8 gig iMac G5, I'd be worried. I bought mine (the one just mentioned) in August of 2004 and had been reading articles about them having various failures. I chose the ostrich approach, I stuck my head in the sand and pretended that it couldn't happen to me until one night I rebooted and it just died. If you look on Apple's web site, you'll see where they have a whole extended warrantee regarding these iMacs due to the huge number of failures. I sold the 'dead' iMac to somebody who could get it repaired (not wanting to deal with that) and I bought a dual 2 gig G5 to replace it. I don't think I'll ever buy a first generation anything again. I don't want that very unpleasant experience to repeat itself.

Hello,

My iMac G5 has become suddenly ver hungry of CPU power after adding Ram to
768 megs. I can hear the sound of the fans revving up a bit. Activity
Monitor shows that kernel tasks asks a lot then Word 2004 and finally Safari
2.0. Seems to me that with 512 ram, it didn't make use of the CPU so
intensively. Economy Pref pane for the CPU performance is on "automatic". In any case, how does work the process of CPU usage on a G5 iMac? This thing
worries me a bit. Should I be worried..?

Thanks a lot in advance
