Andrew,

>From my point of view, Java3D is [mostly] fine technically, although I'm
pretty much a newbie to graphics stuff. The problem is support.

If I'm pitching Information Visualization services to a client, and tell
them my software relies on a third-party library called "Java3D" which will
need to be installed on all their desktops, they will want to know who's
behind it. If I tell them "Sun Microsystems Inc.", I'll get one response. If
I tell them "well, you see, it's sort of open-sourced, but this guy Justin
Couch is working like crazy to keep it going", I'll get a very different
one.

Now that Doug Twilleager has unequivocally said "We will support Java 3D."
maybe there's hope.
