The problem with America is that everything is done to extremes. The story always seems to be about feast or famine, never a happy medium.
What breaks my heart even more is the story of Europe. My favorites have always been the northern countries: Netherlands Denmark Germany It really seemed like they had a lot going for them, including some of the most vibrant IT environments on the planet. The big problem appears to be the Eurozone. The saying goes: lay down with dogs and you will wake up with fleas. The truth is that the whole world is in a lot of trouble right now and people in the future might have to become mobile in ways they never could have imagined in times past. Life is moving fast these days and we might not have the luxury of staying in one place for 10+ years. My advice is: - Go where you are needed/wanted. - Do not buy real estate - Keep your tech skills strong, but save some time to learn gardening and other handy skills. Everything in the new world will be temporary and on an "as needed" basis. Do not fall in love with any job, country, government or technology. You need to be able to drop them as quick or quicker than they will drop you.
