My problem with this is, what do you think we can afford? How much would you have paid BJ and do you know how much he wanted? What if a player like BJ has an overinflated opinion of his value which neither manager nor chairman were willing to match? OR in the case of Kilkenny the player fails to respond to the offer of a new contract? How do you negotiate with a party that won't respond? In your medical negligence cases you can drag them into court if they don't respond but a player is under no obligation to respond to a contract offer and is well within his rights not to.
