here's two long shots to try:

1. place a frame script in the frame just after the current end of your score:

on enterFrame me
   halt
end

theory: Director treats the last frame in the score strangely in 
certain situations (as it does the more famous first frame). By 
placing another sprite (script-only in this case), it make sure that 
the fadeOut isn't happening on the last frame.

2. you could also try a Tempo channel wait (on sound(1)) in your last frame.
- I'm not sure whether it works, but it should be that the playhead 
gets released just as a fadeout completes.
