Hi Andrew, now known as "The man that punp blood over IrDA"! LOL

I joke, nothing personal... I have to specify it becouse many computer geeks
are soooo boring that not like jokes and stuff like that. Nothing personal
against u, ok???

>i'm sure we all respect eachother's opinions, but you're being an ass.

:-((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

> the
>simple fact is that not EVERY task needs a desktop.

Yep, but a desktop simplify everything. U can have lots of windows, u can
have tools open in the same area, soooooo good...

> in fact *nix does have
better availability (longer uptimes) than windows (unless you're not doing
anything).

That's true. I remember I never rebooted my Linux router for something like
four months! And thats' good. But now I have a hardware router, and that's
way better! A good, venerable ZyXEL P312 Firewall-router that protect and
route my LAN (nine pc's here, with all flowes of OS's, from Windows 98SE,
Millennium too 2000/NT/Linux, one MAC colourful toy and one Sun Workstation)
:-)))))

> linux/unix is more customizable and better suited to certain
>tasks.

YEP... CERTAIN... mostly Tcp/Ip oriented tasks. For the rest is mostly a
pain the ass.

> hell, my windows box crashes about 5 times a week because it has
>trouble recovering from sleep.

Yep it happen, but maybe u are not very good in configuring it. Windows like
any other OS need a little bit of customization, obviously not toooooo much
like Linux or Unix. I had a venerable Dell notebook in the past with Windows
98SE and it was working sooooo good... He did sleep and wake up without any
problem. I also have two desktop with it and they act pretty well for simple
tasks like converting Mp3 and stuff.

> actually it's crasshed right now. hmmm..

:-(((((((((((((((((

>clearly windows has some problems too.

YEP, it is far from perfect, but it's a professional OS and have less
problems than toy/geek/fanatics OS :-)

>it's also ridiculous to keep mentioning *professional* software.

It is professional...

> i'm a
>software engineer. i've worked on projects where we had to extend existing
>*professional* software and it was crap.

Well, MS not give away the code for free... It's a Pro OS and they keep code
for themself.

>the piece of shit program i worked on sold
>for about $5,000 (us dollars). it was terrible, buggy, poorly written, bad
>gui, bad serial interfacing. oh. and it ran on windows. high quality my
ass.

The problem in this case is not the OS but the program.

>you're reading comprehension or understanding of the original statement
>isn't very good.

Well, admit that your use of the IrDA stack is pretty complicated and very
personal.
Most of the people like myself need IrDA for connection a phone, do some
IrLAN and connecting a PdA. that's all.

And, well, we can say the truth: the Linux IrDA project support is not very
good. I wanna say, I NOT COMPLAIN about it: I not pay Brattli or the other
developers for it, but they represent very well the NO PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE
of many Linux projects.

They never updated the soundforge page in a year or so, and this speak for
themself; the documentation is very poorly, there is no final code,
everything is always at a development state, very early development state...
U not know where u can download the very last version of IrDA utils becouse
it NOT EXISTS. I know also Linus complain about the totally lack of
organization of the IrDA Linux guys.

But, well, I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST THEM, I not pay for IrDA and Linux so it's
okie with them, I just wonder why they are unable to update a horrible and
simple Soundforge page with the latest drivers and utils. That's pretty
simple update a web page Linux style... LOL

They are the perfect example of the "toy state" of the Linux OS.

Exactly at the opposite, I can call the Isdn4Linux project. Yes, it's
complicated to setup, but the german guy that maintain it is very
proffessional, he reply to questions, he say himself that is code is not
perfect, but he do his best to help everyone and the code is really
professional code, always in a develpment state, but pretty good and pretty
usable, with a simple web page, updated often, a great board and lots of
good things.

THIS IS LINUX, my friend, no complain at all!!! it's cool like that. :-)))

>yes. you are officially a user

Yes I am!!! Tooooooo boring writing code... LOL, I just do some perl for
optimize my task few and then... I prefer writing songs with Protools under
Windows than writing code... LOL

> and have fully demonstrated your complete lack
>of understanding about software development and operating systems
principles.

Good. I respect your opinion of myself.

>I beliee that you have just earned alot of respect from the people who
>develop your free software by blatantly insulting their ideology,
competency,
>and work.

Not at all: I simply explain my opinions. And that guys developing what you
call MY free OS not do that certainly for me. So I respect them like every
other human being in this world, and like I do with other human being I say
what I think. And I can't accept to read statement against real OS's like
Windows.

Regards

Massimo
