Surely your 20 years of IT experience should have been of some use in determining which file to download? There are actually only four files- the 'fifth' one is a link to the parent directory. Of those four files two are md5sum files (which I am sure you know what to do with), which leaves two. One of those is version 3.4.3 from February (the version number is cunningly hidden in the filename itself) and the other is version 6.0 from, er, 9 days ago. That's probably the one you want.

Andrew we're working in a space where 9 days can be a completely different version.

I expected to find a link for a live cd and an installation cd... after all, the last ubuntu 5.10 version folder had 2 cd's in it.

Assuming of course that somebody wants to.

hence why I wrote 'want to' :)

As far as I can see you have had nothing but help, advice, suggestions and support.

Read closer. Yes, some of you have over whelmed me (as usual) with a wealth of different support... so much so, I'm left not knowing what would be the best thing to do...

Let's recap...

1. Use xxxx wifi module, it should work - but does need kernel x.x.x.17... hummm.... u6.06 stops at 15.23... err not sure why....

2. Change distro to xxxxx - use live cd.... I can give you one....

3. Use Google - google says.... use ndiswrapper.... ndiswrapper doesn't seem to load... wifi ko file doesn't seem to load....

If I follow option 1 I 'annoy' the people who say 'go with 2', if I go with 2 then I have a bunch of new issues... if I go with 3 then I have more issues...

Then let's recap some of my posts earlier in the month, I ask a question, get a number of helpful response and also get sarcasum and posts telling me to 'go away' because I am posting from an XP based system... A system I might add, I'm using because some of the helpful assistance I got from this list actually *killed my running* ubuntu 5.10 system to the point where it was time to just upgrade hardware....

Now my choice would have been to keep using my existing system for posting (to avoid the flack) while I build a new system up and get it doing EVERYTHING needed....

I find it ironic that the person dishing up the abuse for doing it this way is also the person who cause the trashing of my last working system!

Rather than listen to this you seem to go off on your own, get stuck, and complain.

In correct. I listened, choose what I thought might be the quickest solution, failed, then kept moving thru the proposals...

WRT getting a Mepis disc, I did say I had one, and so did Rob. You never asked for one of us to deliver it to you.

Rob didn't over to deliver it. He expressed he was in parklands (off list) and said his son would be home all afternoon...

You didn't say where you were, I didn't think to email you as well, sorry about that.

I thought about it, reviewed my last orcon bill, realised I'd used 3.5gb of my 10 gb and decided that $10 in gas plus the cost of a CD was a waste, not to mention harmful to the enviornment. That's when I emailed Rob and asked him for a link to the 'exact' file I should download.

You did say "Back on track.... lets whirl this live cd.", but that was a bit cryptic. I still have the ISO, and I still have the disc that I burned. Do you want it?

No. Thank you very much, I've started the download, it should be complete in a few hours.

However, thank you very much of the offer...

Do you now see why I think it's really important to get a community iso file mirror running? Do all of you see why I think that it's exactly on topic?

This should have been a case of someone posting a link to the right ISO and me taking 10 minutes to download it.

Cheers Don
