Just a thought, Don. Have you tried doing a clean install of U-6.06?
This is what I'll be doing for you & Broadcom in a couple of hours,
expecting it to 'just work' (so that I can refer us to specific process,
files & settings etc.) The same clean install assumption had been made
by Robert & Andrew in offering you Mepis - with the U-6.06 kernel
underneath.
1 proviso: Your user data from the U-5.10 partition would be lost this
way, unless you backup then reinstate it.
This was so basic a proposal that it seems to have been overlooked.
