I'm a little strict on hosting because my clients pay for 100% uptime. I do
not rely on their internal ping alerts as they are internal to the hosting
facility and they do not know when they themselves are down most the time.
As yesterday they were up and down for hours and I never got a notification
from them, but from my internal system, then I called and they knew about it
already, of course.

I monitor my servers myself from two different locations (My main office and
my accounting office), I do an up check every 5 minutes to pull the name
'texas' from a state table in SQL server to test that their up and my
database servers are up. If both fail within 5 minutes of each other I get
a text alert on my cell phone.

I don't know about this. I've not received any complaints over the last
couple of weeks from my customers and I've only seen the ping alerts hit
once in the last couple of weeks and that was only for a few minutes.

Anyway, I have also had a very good experience at colo4dallas. A client of
mine has two machines there and they are very helpful. I would suggest going
down there and taking a tour.
