Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Fridays Levy Letter. I hope your day is going well. And tonight, on BBC One for the programme, were slightly later today at 7.15pm, because of course, its the first day of the World Cup. Therell be coverage on BBC One for that, so look out for any changes to the television schedules. Were on at a quarter past seven tonight. I hope you can join me then.
Tonight on the programme, I'll be investigating why a local MP wants the law toughening up for young drivers. He wants a ban on teenagers having passengers in their cars. Our area is always in the news, because of the dreadful accidents on our roads. Well, hes partly blaming our young inexperienced drivers and wants to change the law to help prevent more accidents. Ill have the full story later and of course, Ill be asking what you think about that. Im sure youve got a view and if you want to email me about that before the show, then its the normal email address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look forward to hearing your comments. Also tonight, we'll be looking at the rumours surrounding the Hull City Manager, Peter Taylor, leaving the KC Stadium. Theyre just rumours at the moment, but of course Look North is looking into that one for you. We were talking about it last night and even the national news are picking up on the story of a cruise ship travelling to the Norwegian Fjords, which has been struck down with a stomach bug. Well have more on the sixty passengers, who have had their holiday ruined by this virulent bug. The ship is coming to dock in the region, so I'll have the very latest on that. And why has Withernsea been brought to a standstill? Well, a World War Two bomb has been found and I'll be talking to the man who found it. And well be at the World Cup party, especially put on for school children in Boston. So even though, Look North is on later tonight, weve got a busy show for you on this Friday night, so I hope you can join me then. A Foot Its a story that everyone is talking about. There are two pages here in the paper this morning about it - The famous foot of the famous person. Well, what am I talking about? Well, not Waynes metatarsal, but now the saga of Mrs Beckhams bunions! It seems, shock horror, hold the front page, that Mrs Victoria Beckham has a big bunion on her left foot, caused by wearing ill fitting shoes and high heels. Its splashed all around the papers and now people on the TV are getting worked up about it too. So perfect Victoria Beckham has a bunion on her left foot and all those fancy high heels have caused it! Drivers Well, you either love them or you hate them. Although, I dont actually know anyone, who does love them well Im talking about speed cameras. Last night we were talking about the A1079 and the problems there and there are a lot of speed cameras up there, but theyre not all in operation yet, but are about to be. Well, the daddy of all speed cameras, which can patrol four lanes of a motorway are heading our way. Theyre called the Gatso and theyre not yet available in the UK, but they could become the ultimate weapon of war against the motorist. The new device has an array of gadgets to trap speeding drivers, including a memory that can hold up to sixty thousand images and can take close-up pictures of the drivers face to prevent motorists claiming that someone else was at the wheel at the time. These photographs can be downloaded at any time via a link. Currently, the most familiar cameras on our roads, those yellow boxes, can only monitor part of a wide carriageway, but! these new Gatsos can cover the whole of the motorway. The new machine, the Gatso, is fitted with three digital cameras, plus a video capture system, which produces crystal clear images. So you have been warned! They havent arrived here yet, but they are on the way. Business Its been Business Week in Hull. I was there on the first day and there again today on the last day. And lets hope that its been a big success for the business people of our region, all celebrating Business Week in Hull. Of course, all of those, who took part or who organised it and everyone I met this week, then thank you very much indeed. On Monday, for the launch of Business Week, I was talking to Rachel Elnaugh. I was talking to her on the programme as well. And still I see, although Ive only just watched it back, on Monday nights Dead Ringers, they are still lampooning Rachel with an impression of her on the show. If youve not seen that comedy programme, then its well worth watching. Its on BBC Two on Monday nights at nine oclock. House Prices House prices are expected to rise three times faster than predicted this year, because of fierce competition amongst buyers. The council of mortgage lenders yesterday admitted that it had got its figures wrong and now prices of houses are expected to rise on average by 7%! Can you believe this? That would add around £13,000 to the average house price, which these days is £185,000! Thats in just one year and up by £13,000. Its just extraordinary isnt it? Well, that's it from me for today. Have a very good day today and a very good week. Im sure youll enjoy the lovely weather and the sunshine. And the suns here just in time for all of you, who dont like football, to sunbathe in your gardens! And if you do like football, then I hope you enjoy the World Cup, which is starting today. Thanks for reading the Levy Letter and if theres someone you know, whos not signed up and they would like one, then point them in the direction of either one of the two addresses at the bottom of the page. Get them to go to those, follow the instructions through and theyll get their first email from me on Monday.
