Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day's
going well and I hope you’re nice and happy. According to a survey just out,
this country is one of the grumpiest in the whole of Europe, but I’m sure
you’re not being grumpy today. I hope you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC
One at half past six. We'll have all the day's news, and the latest in our
special series of reports, The Big Check Up, looking at the state of the
region's health services.

We'll meet the Scunthorpe man forced to go all the way to Hungary for dental
treatment. Seems a bit far, doesn’t it?

We have exclusive pictures of a customs raid that saw 7 million illegal
cigarettes seized in Immingham.

We reveal why one council may soon be using closed circuit television cameras
to catch people who don't clean up after their dogs. After the response to our
story about talking CCTV cameras, I’m sure lots of people will have thoughts on
this one.

And find why the Humber Bridge was closed for 15 minutes today…

And also of course Paul will have the forecast. That’s on BBC One at half past
six.

Just a reminder that our watch again feature is hugely popular. We’ve got a
brand new revamped website for Look North where you can watch the previous
night’s programme with all the different stories. You can just watch one story
if you want, or if you missed the programme, if you’re home late and you’d like
to watch the whole thing, then you can at www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull. Log on
anytime you like and watch the most recent edition of Look North, and also some
of out special reports any time during the course of the evening.

William and Kate

Well the split up of William and Kate at the weekend dominated the papers and
still is, can you believe, three days later. Well many people were shocked when
they got the news, but none more so than the BBC’s royal correspondent Nicolas
Witchell. He was due to go out on Saturday night with his wife and two
daughters to see The Sound of Music, but the call came and he couldn’t. Instead
of watching Connie sing her heart out on stage, he had to stand outside
Buckingham Palace doing bits for the television. Prince Charles of course was
once overheard in the skiing resort of Klosters whingeing about Nicolas
Whitchell saying “I can’t bear that man, he’s so awful, he really is.”
Wonderful quote.

That Dress

Well everybody’s talking about this dress. It sells at £360. It’s by a well
known designer label. Now one of our high street chains has come up with a
replica model which is flying out of the supermarkets and into the trolleys for
just £16. Several people have written to me to say how do they do these
versions for so cheap? Well that’s a whole other story for a whole other day.
But anyway, everybody’s talking about it in the papers and on the television
all the time. You can buy a replica copy for just £16. That sounds pretty good.

Dognapping

Last night we brought you the story about the six very valuable pedigree dogs
stolen by thieves from one family in Goxhill. The owners believe they were
targeted by criminals after the dogs were advertised for sale in a local paper
and the thieves may even have visited them posing as potential buyers. Well,
this has got you talking and you all seem to be incredible sympathetic for
these owners who have lost their beloved pets. But what surprised me at the
time came from an interview with Ryan O'Meara, who's the editor for K9
Magazine. I found this quite shocking, but he recommended that dogs shouldn't
have their address or telephone number on their collar, as this could make them
vulnerable and subject to dognapping. I'm sure this comes as a surprise to you
too! It seems to fly in the face of common sense, although it seems sensible
when you think about it.

Well one expert, Ryan from K9 Magazine, said the best way to protect your pet
is to have it microchipped. Apparently, it's not that expensive, only about £15
or so and that can contain vital information about the pets' owners! So have a
word with your vet about microchipping if you're concerned about losing your
pet. If you have been unlucky enough to have a dog go missing, there are
organisations to help. One is called Dog Lost and they have a website at
www.doglost.co.uk and their telephone number is 01302743361. I hope that's
useful to any dog owners.

William

No, not that William, but William Hague. He’s always on television, he’s always
writing books, and public speaking. Well he’s earned quite a lot of money it
seems from his private side of things, but he insists he’s not distracted from
his job, and 95% of his time goes into politics, but he’s made three quarters
of a million pounds in the last couple of years from his TV work and after
dinner speaking, according to the register of MP’s interests. And of course
William Hague is coming to Hull shortly. He’s written a book all about William
Wilberforce, and he’ll be in Hull for the start of June, so maybe we’ll be able
to get to talk to him on the programme.

Dancing

Well Strictly Come Dancing was a huge hit, on this week at the Hull New Theatre
is Simply Ballroom, modelled on the programme. Anton Du Beke is there, and also
the dancer Erin Boag, and the programme is hosted by the old twinkle toed –
still going strong – Lionel Blair. It’s on this week if you’re into dancing.

Don’t forget, if you’re involved with an amateur show and you’d like a plug in
the Levy Letter, drop me a line, give me the details and we’ll try and give you
a plug, send them as usual to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Give me a contact telephone
number as well.

And if you’ve got a photograph you’re particularly pleased with, however
different and offbeat, then drop me the line and send it to me and we’ll show
it on the programme one night. Well that’s it from me today, thank you very
much for reading. Enjoy your afternoon, join me tonight on BBC One at half past
six as usual. Bye for now.

Peter
