Hi there and welcome to today’s Levy Letter. It’s Peter here and I’m certainly
enjoying the sunshine. It’s strange though that it’s so cold first thing and so
icy on the roads in the morning and yet the sun is really quite warm. It’s
welcome anyway!

On tonight's programme at half past six, as friends and family of Joe Dinsdale,
the seventeen year old found stabbed in Hull, pay tribute to him, we'll bring
you the latest on the investigation into Joe's death. We'll have a special
report from the Preston Road Estate in which residents describe what life is
like for them living on the estate. I hope you can join me for that.

Also tonight, after six protected buzzards are found dead in Lincolnshire,
we'll be asking why this particular species has been targeted and what impact
their deaths could have on the wildlife population. We'll be talking with TV's
top naturalist, Chris Packham, about his concerns for birds of prey in our
region.

Also tonight, it's ‘Super Wednesday’ in one part of Hull today where a battle
is taking place to find the Labour politician, who could fill John Prescott's
shoes in the next election.

Tune in tonight to see all the match action, including Lincoln's victory over
Accrington Stanley as they continue their winning run. Plus we'll meet the
eight year old golf prodigy from Scunthorpe, who's come fresh from his training
session with one of the UK's top golfers. Find out just what makes this child
sports star so determined to be the next Tony Jacklin!

And as I say, with all this beautiful weather this week, could Spring really be
here? Look North has been in search of snowdrops making a welcome appearance in
our parks and gardens. Along with the weather forecast from Paul, we’ll be on
BBC One at half past six for today’s edition of Look North.

As you know we’ve been looking a great deal at the problem of youth crime, not
just in our region really, but it’s a problem all over the country. This text
message caught my eye this morning though. And it’s not often that we can offer
a positive message, so I thought it important to share this with you. There’s
no name with this message, but thank you to whoever sent this – “A few weeks
ago, I fell over in the middle of Scunthorpe Shopping Centre. (I am a
forty-eight year old woman.) There was a group of young people there and I
fully expected them to laugh and jeer at me. They surprised me by helping me up
and asking if I was alright. They were a lovely group and we even had a laugh
together. We shouldn’t judge all young people as ignorant trouble makers.”

Confused Drivers

Here’s the latest road safety campaign. Does it sound a little bonkers to you?
Plans could be to redesign roads to leave both drivers and pedestrians
uncertain about who has priority. They think this may help save lives. They
think the confusion that will ensue will help cut traffic speed. It’s thought
that barriers, railings, kerbs and traffic lights all help to give pedestrians
a false sense of security against the dangers of traffic and if they’re
abolished, then it’ll make drivers and pedestrians keep a watch out for each
other.

Diet Drinks

This is something I’m surprised at. I always thought that ordering a diet drink
or swapping sugar in your tea for sweeteners would help in losing weight. But
not so according to those busy scientists in the US. But they say it’s not down
to diet versions of soft drinks or sweeteners having more calories in them,
because of course they don’t. Scientists reckon that people over compensate and
consume more calories inadvertently, because they think they’re doing a good
thing by drinking diet drinks instead of full fat drinks!

Valentine’s

Yes it’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow. I’m sure there’ll be lots of husbands
stopping off at petrol stations to grab a box of chocolates or flowers for
their partners as they go home from work. However, we want to hear from you if
you’ve got something a little more extravagant planned for your loved one. Are
you planning anything romantic for Valentine’s Day? Here at Look North we'd
like to hear from anyone who is going out of their way to make it a special
day. You might be getting married on Valentine’s Day or be planning a
spectacular event to show how in love you are. We'd love to feature some of the
more quirky Valentine’s celebrations on the programme tomorrow. Get in touch
with me about this today. I’d love to hear from you. It’s the usual address of
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well, that's it from me for now. Enjoy your Wednesday sunshine!

Peter
