Hi there, it’s Peter with your Letter on Wednesday. I hope you’re okay today.

Throughout the day, we’ll be investigating the news that police are looking
into a break-in at the Leconfield barracks. The police helicopter has been
above the base, which we understand is looking for a car. We’ll get the latest
on this incident for you tonight.

Also on the programme, we'll have a special report on the record number of
migrant workers who are leading successful lives in our region. We'll be live
in Goole tonight where the council is helping new communities to settle in the
town.

And they say it's one of the best of its kind in the country - we'll take a
look as Lincolnshire County Council reveal their new Gold Command Centre, which
they claim will help improve their response to future flooding disasters.

And in sport, we'll speak to the coaches of Hull FC and Hull KR ahead of this
weekend's derby to ask them what they think their chances are. And find out why
Hull City goalkeeper, Boaz Myhill, made a surprise visit to see one local
school boy.

Plus we'll ask if you fancy being a scout leader. We'll look at why
Lincolnshire children need help to be encouraged away from the TV and computer
and get out into the great outdoors! That’s all at half past six as usual.

Pigs Might Fly

I read about this today and it’s surely from the ‘it’s too bizarre to make up’
pile of stories! A reward has been offered for a giant inflatable pig, which
floated into the Californian desert during a concert by ex-Pink Floyd star,
Roger Waters. This giant inflatable pink pig made an appearance for some reason
or other at a festival in America at the weekend and the organisers are quite
keen to get it back. This giant pig is the width of two buses, so I’d imagine
that it might be quite easy to spot! I think the chances of it floating over
the UK might be quite slim though, but you never know! There’s a reward of
$10,000 and a life time of free tickets to this festival in America! So keep
your eyes peeled for a flying pink pig!

X Ray Paintings

You all know I like technology which is why I thought I’d share this story with
you. I have to admit not knowing a great deal about Shakespeare, so I don’t
really know the implications of this unique find. I read though that a rare
portrait, believed to be of Shakespeare’s only known patron, has been
discovered using X-ray technology. But I don’t understand how on earth they’ve
done this. To the naked eye, looking at the original portrait, it looks like a
normal portrait of a woman, dressed in black and wearing ruby ear-rings.
However, the painting had been re-painted at some point. And the image of the
woman was actually covering up a pre-existing painting of Henry Wriothesley,
the Earl of Southampton and known to be Shakespeare’s patron. I can’t begin to
think how this works though. Scientists X-rayed the portrait and have found a
hidden picture. If you’re interested you can look at the BBC’s website to see
the hidden picture – it’s quite ghostly because it’s all in black !
and white. Although this is a very unique painting of Shakespeare’s patron,
there’s no plans to chip away at the painting to reveal this hidden artwork.
Don’t you think this technology must surely make scientists eager to X-ray more
paintings to see if there is anything hidden underneath? Just imagine there
might be some secret sketches underneath the Mona Lisa perhaps!

Well, on that very cultured note, I shall leave it there for now. I hope you
have a good day and join me tonight if you can at half past six.

Take care,

Peter
