The stock firmware has a bug that prevents it from properly registering with a 1.2 core. The devices have small amounts of memory inside and can misbehave sometimes when they need to upgrade their firmware. I would remove power from both units for a minute or two, then restore power and immediately try and upgrade again. If that still doesn't work then please let us know and we can look at alternatives.
