"Dogleg" refers to the SSS gear pattern which puts reverse where first
normally is first where second normally is, second where third normally is,
third where second normally is, if you get the idea. This arrangement puts
2nd and third in same plane and fourth and fifth in the same plane. Some
people (including me) prefer this arrangement for motor sport use.
"Stumpy" means a five speed box that is the same length as the original 1600
four speed box, therefore no tailshaft shortening is required to fit it into
a 1600, and the gear stick comes out the original transmission tunnel hole
(in a manual car).
