Ground effect is actually where the bottom on the car is shaped like a wing so it
is sucking the car down, the side skirts were spring mounted and used to stop the
air escaping from the sides. There was a different car that had a fan driven by
the crankshaft that sucked air from under the car, these were banned in like 2
races or something. Ground effect cars were great but if you broke a sideskirt and
came into a corner the same speed as you did last lap y ou were infor a rought
ride.
