to say that learning can "fix" specific kinds of ignorance.

But stupidity is very different and it can't be fixed. People who lack 
intelligence or the ability to think clearly are often ignorant as a result, 
the stupidity itself is an inability to learn while ignorance only means that 
there is learning to be done. Ignorant means you need to learn or you should 
learn while stupid means you cannot learn. Huge difference, like the difference 
between "out of shape" and "paralyzed" or "couch potato" and "paraplegic".
