I knew someone would say that! (I was just waiting! ;-) To me, having the version and name (aka, graffiti or dirt) is like having it on the outside to me, because with a mp3 stream, there is no way of putting it on the _outside_ unless LAME started each audible file with something audible text like "Welcome, this mp3 was encoded by LAME, now enjoy this song". And, that is absolutely insane. My shirt has _one_ (1) label in it. Each mp3 that I did (past tense) encode with a stock LAME, labeled it thousands of times. That is like saying that each (or nearly each) thread in my shirt has a label. Too garbage for me. My statement may not be the perfect analogous statement, but, I don't think there is one. And, who are these people that care what I do anyway? It is not like I am breaking any laws. If I remember right, LAME is GLP, that means that I can do whatever I want as long as I make the source available. The LAME project should know this more than anyone as they were just a patch until just recently. (Okay, someone can knock my use of recently too if you want -- recent for me).
