So that you ( or anybody else who get the file in his hands ) know what
encoder was used to produce the mp3 file. Some people actually want to know
this. They want to know this so much , that they even wrote a program to
analyze a mp3 file and guess which encoder was used to make it. ( see EncSpot
at http://www.guerillasoft.com/Encspot/ ). At least with lame , it has not to
guess , but can read the exact info.

If it was my decision , not only the encoder name, but its exact version,
build options, build environment ( OS type, compiler type and version ) and
the options used to encode the mp3 file would all be saved in the mp3 file.
