I really don't understand why you're so concerned that some data are written in a binary file, as long as these audoi data are played and not modified. Being LAME or whatever other name. Do you spend your life looking at your binary files for funny data ?
I don't think itshould be added to the lame CVS, because, as previously mentionned the ONLY thing that would really change is make life easier to license breakers. You made your patch, because you don't want this and that's OK (that's the power of Open Source). But I think it should not be added to the CVS. You can even make your own 'distribution' of Lame with your patch if you want. So if a company use this you'll feel more responsible ;) BTW, what happened with that CDR software that used the lame engine internaly without even mentioning it ? ----- Original Message ----- From: "jeremy brand" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, October 02, 2001 9:57 AM Subject: Re: [MP3 ENCODER] clean frames in ancillary data with patch | On Mon, 1 Oct 2001, the following spilled from the mind of Greg Wooledge: | | > jeremy brand ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) wrote: | > | > > That is not it at all. (I was just waiting! ;-) | | To me, having the version and name (aka, graffiti or dirt) is like having | it on the outside to me, because with a mp3 stream, there is no way of | putting it on the _outside_ unless LAME started each audible file with | something audible text like "Welcome, this mp3 was encoded by LAME, now | enjoy this song". And, that is absolutely insane. | | My shirt has _one_ (1) label in it. Each mp3 that I did (past tense) | encode with a stock LAME, labeled it thousands of times. That is like | saying that each (or nearly each) thread in my shirt has a label. | | Too garbage for me. | | My statement may not be the perfect analogous statement, but, I don't | think there is one. And, who are these people that care what I do anyway? | It is not like I am breaking any laws. If I remember right, LAME is GLP, | that means that I can do whatever I want as long as I make the source | available. The LAME project should know this more than anyone as they | were just a patch until just recently.
