But embedding it into the ID3 tag has a purpose. It's easy to see which MP3 should better be reencoded from the source to get better quality. I use the comment field for this. I could look into the MP3 itself, but if you play it with WinAmp or xmms (or another player) you just have to look at the ID3 info if you think you heared an artefact. Much faster.
