Simply, it is a contradiction and it DOES affect your right to use the
software.
As an "owner" of CGFX 4.0CD I now use 4.2 that's a free "update". I
physically "own" MUI 3.6, however I now use MUI 3.8. Same with Vp5,
AMTelnet, Contact Manager, WebVision, MetalWeb, MD --they've all been
UPDATED since the CD's release. NetConnect3 is a different product with
different features/programs from NC2. It is not an UPDATE. It is an
UPGRADE
and we were lucky to get a discount for this NEW product. It seems as
though
people are calling it an UPGRADE, but treating it as though it is an UPDATE.

If I should feel so inclined to run Voyager 2.96 then that is my right. We
were
offered an "upgrade path" discount--not sent simply a new keyfile. I
currently
use the NC2 Dock Bar because of stability/features over Octopus. I also use

AmFTP because of stability. As for the programs on the CD that haven't
already
been updated I use: hmm. . . Let's see. . . Genesis. (Don't really
use/need
AMIRC, NetInfo, mFTP, AmChat). If you forfeit the CD to this new company
then
you lose the legal right (maybe not moral right) to use the software that
was on it.
How do you still have the right to use something that you no longer own?
What they
should have done was just got rid of the "upgrade" offer. Sorry Charlie.
You ordered
too late. That was an early bird special for the LOYAL NC customers. The
thought
of me packing up an old CD and sending it across the pond is so obsurd.
"Hey,
Where's the cover?", "Why is this CD gouged?", "It looks like a dog has been

chewing on it.", etc. These new owners need to be realistic.

Disagree. I bought NC3 from Active at a discount as a prior/loyal NC2 user.
 My CD
says NetConnect 3 on it not "NC2.5 upgrade". I have never had any trouble
with
Chris and judging from his post to c.s.a.m. today, I think he's done with
the lot of us.
I never once complained here or elsewhere about mistakes that were made and
were
mostly beyond Chris' control. Why? Cause it didn't matter to me. I had
NC2 installed
and could easily download updated versions. As an example, if my hard drive
quits
tonite (assuming my backup partition fails also) am I gonna slap in my NC3
CD first?
No. I'll put in NC2, load a stable version of Voyager and start downloading
the updates.

As for selling off cheap NC2 CD's on eBay or wherever I have mixed feelings.
 If your not
using any of the apps-FINE. For one thing, I've registered my same
existing copy more
than once. Why? I repartitioned a hard drive and didn't back up the Key
that is generated.
If your not using the apps then sell it and let someone else get use out of
it, see how good it
is and say "Damn this is good. I think I'm gonna order NC3 cause I want the
latest versions".
I mean, I bought IBrowse over the net and all I got was a 100k Keyfile. No
Manual. No Media.
Nothing.  Frankly, that's about all I really needed from NC2  -> NC3 was a
keyfile. Having
the media allows me to use older versions (sometimes not beta software) and
programs that
I paid for and are no longer part of the suite. I think we all know that
the only thing good
about the NC3 CD is the keyfile.
