hi ron,
actually i think the average computer user would choose text, but as in
voting think they have no choice, or that they would stick out if they did
not.  This is hardly a pole, but I reference the options on the yahoo
mailing list system.  if you join a yahoo group, the default choice is not
to send html, and many other majors feel that way.  however, using a ms
product does not give one a choice or not an easy one as usual, so many do
without knowing that need not.
