Hey,

Let me answer the original questions: As far as business cards, I'll probably get
something like MCSA/MCSE 2000

Let me throw my 2 cents in regarding the thread. I'm in the middle of MCSE boot camp
now...just passed 4 of 4 exams...3 more to go!!! I was fortunate to take the new MCSA
exam and passed that one too.

I took "classes" for MCSE under NT 4 but never had the time to take the tests. So,
going for my certs has always been a goal. What I've learned is that "classes" will
teach you the subject matter but it will be VERY difficult to pass the test....not
impossible....just harder. Boot-camp or any other similar method is just about
passing the test....nothing more, nothing less. YOu may pickup a few bits of
information but it's not truly learning the operating system or product.

As a technical manager, when I review resumes....I try to look at the entire picture.
Personally, certs don't mean "everything"...I'd rather have person with experience
than certs...if they have certs, then that's fine. It also depends on the work
evironment. Currently, I can't afford to hire someone w/certs & no experience...I
have enough junior folks at the moment. So, take it for what it works....it just
depends on what folks need. The market is flooded w/inexperienced folks w/certs....I
do telephone interviews before I even bring someone in for actual interview....if they
don't "know" anything...then I don't waste my time. All the certs in the world won't
help you if you can't pass a technical, telephone interview....you just can't
substitute experience with four letters.....even if they are followed by '2000'.

For those that have done the MCSE for NT and 2000, how are you showing it on
your business cards?

ie.
MCSE (NT+2000)
MCSE NT+2000
MCSE (NT/2000)
MCSE NT/2000
MCSE NT MCSE 2000
MCSE NT 2000
MCSE
or any other way?

Leonard Lee
