Subject: RE: [Open_Gaming] Final Text of Approved Open Gaming License
<< Doh! You are absolutely correct, sir. I should amend my statements to
say:
I am protesting the fact that the OGF website does not clearly state
the purpose of the foundation and the relationship of the license
to the foundation - and that the resulting confusion has not been
actively addressed by the foundation's officers. >>
Thank you. Now I understand your position much more clearly. I no longer
have any incorrect belief that you yourself are confused; rather, I have the
correct belief that you are concerned about the confusion of others. I
apologize of any of my earlier statements -- based on my incorrect
perception -- included you in the confused camp.
And if there is confusion -- a point I'll grant, since confusion of some
degree is inevitable -- then I agree that we and Ryan should do what we can
to minimize it.
But the OGF website DOES state the things you want stated. Do you think
these statements are insufficient? Or do you think these statements are not
prominent enough? If the former, what sort of wording do you think would be
clearer? The only thing I don't see is a statement that "WotC has
specifically stated that the OGL is a marketing tool that they are using to
increase the sales of their core RPG gaming products." Frankly, I don't
think the foundation should be discussing Wizards' purposes, even though the
foundation is currently 100% employed by Wizards. Both the license and the
reasons behind it should be explained on Wizards' site, and the foundation
should just link to it. But if the license continues to be hosted only on
the foundation's site, then perhaps an "About the OGL" section should be
added that clarifies some of these matters.
<< In my opinion, A.01 and A.02 are factually correct. BUT they are
directly
contradicted by the OGF website. >>
I don't see the direct contradiction. Please help.
