Damian Most OGL and D20 publishers (especially D20 pubs) owe one company and one company ONLY. In the case of D20 publishers, it is WotC and the contract forces them to make this acknowledgement.
OGL gets a little different. Any one of those publishers out there that have controlled IPs could release their game products under the OGL. When I was with Sanguine, we could have released the core Ironclaw and Jadeclaw mechanics into the OGL. SO WotC can only be honored (probably because of Ryan) for developing the OGL, not the mechanics. So if someone bitches about openness, I think they should include EVERYONE, I do not agree with the stance, but I will respect someone more if they include everyone rather than selectively ignoring certain companies because they are not d20 or produce core d20 books with 100% IP. This stance of yours places FAR too much focus on what in a book is open. As if the D20 and OGL community is a bunch of vulture waiting to strip off the flesh from a new victim. Sure, you can say it is in the spirit, BUT I think the spirit of the community should be developing good games with a lot of innovation. Rewarding to a community because it makes it easier to feed on itself is nonsense. Non-d20 producers have created their own, unique IP from the ground up. They owe nothing to anyone else. d20 producers owe a great debt, their very existence usually, to the people who have made it possible for them to publish d20 material. In return those people have simply asked that those publishers give back a little to others. Those publishers who take the gift and yet give nothing are insulting not only the people who gave that gift, but every other publisher who _does_ give back. -Damian _______________________________________________ Ogf-l mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.opengamingfoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/ogf-l _______________________________________________ Ogf-l mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.opengamingfoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/ogf-l
