Hi Folkert, >Maybe a good idea to get some default structures up for the usergroups. > > This sounds like a good idea. There is currently a setup where each usergroup has its own web site on the OSFlash wiki. This is good in that it keeps all groups together and gives them a quick way of updating the site.
Setting the goal for a minimum number of meetings might be another idea. Is one a month too many? (It works well for our MMUG, for example, but does take effort to maintain.) OTOH, it is good to have a fixed schedule and goals, both for people running the groups and for members. >Peter reacted on the 'first topic ever' Dutch group, with the idea to >make the group (groups i this case) original adobe groups. > I am not sure how it would work to combine the two. As you know, OSFlash is independent of Adobe. I don't know what Adobe's take on this would be, either or whether it would even be allowed within the terms of their user group rules. What do other people think about this? >Further on, why not put usergroup community sites on the osflash urls >like for the dutch osflash.nl. > > I like this idea: It's a nice URL, simple. I don't like this idea: It can be seen as a Dutch version of OSFlash instead of OSFlash. Now, that's not a bad thing but it would be almost impossible to provide a literal Dutch translation of the OSFlash wiki *and* keep it synchronized, etc. And then, if it's not synchronized, we're going to get issues like: "Yeah, look at it on OSFlash." I did, it's not there. "Oh yeah, that's only on OSFlash.nl", etc. >The other way (which i think will happen if there is no 'exact' >guideline) is having a osflash.org/user_group/dutch page > I would prefer this due to the reasons above. > with on that >page more info about the group and links to maillist and external >community url. > > What community aspects do you require that are not being provided by the Wiki and mailing list? Maybe we can work it into OSFlash instead of having each user group implement its own. This is actually something that MMUGs would benefit from too. It's such a hassle to maintain a mailing list, site, etc. when all the MMUGs need the same features, really. So, ideally, I would like to keep the user groups on OSFlash.org and, if there's a need that's not being met, let's add the feature to OSFlash instead of reinventing the wheel over and over. What do you think? Aral _______________________________________________ osflash mailing list [email protected] http://osflash.org/mailman/listinfo/osflash_osflash.org
