This thread brought a question to my mind. The advice to buy a PCI ATA card
to use IDE drives makes me ask; "Can you use an SCSI and a IDE drive in the
same machine?" I have a 7600/G3 with an open PCI slot and I could use a big ide
drive.

No problems whatsoever. The only limitation is phsyically fitting in the drives, the 7300 case will limit you to adding one of each, pretty much, unless you take over the floppy drive spot.

you can fit a third hd in the space in front of the ps where the scsi cables are emerging, I use that for temporairy connecting hds that have no casing, and that for some reason needs to be checked. I have also had that space filled over a longer period, and sometimes you can fit to drives in the lower bay, if you remove the sleigh. Now I have to new ata ide disks and considering the speedimprovement I will never fit another old scsi in there again. someone in hear spoke about overheating problems but that never happened to me, it worked great with the ps cavity filled.
