Sounds like you should be up to speed soon, Helene. I thought I remembered that you had purchased an "in-home" service policy. Looks like you are getting the benefits from it already. If I were you I would get the service tech who comes out to stay while you download at least the MS Security patches. Watch what the service tech does. It will be a good learning experience. Ask him questions.
Once he's done, run your computer for 3 or 4 days. Try out everything, start and run all the programs, play music, burn a cd. Make sure it runs as advertised. When you are satisfied, then you can start making any changes you want.
