(As per the w-orm you got) The VERY FIRST thing you should have
done is update the AV software, and Dell has no business
selling you a PC with out dated definitions on it. I would
also guess they didn't install any patches or updates on it, so
you must do that, but only as I previously suggested.

You should not settle for some ridiculous restore disk. You
paid for XP and you should get an XP CD. That's another
problem with these name brand PC's; no OS CD. You'll won't be
able to reformat now should the need arise.

Hi Ben. and all..
UPDATE..

Okay, after getting the computer on Monday.. installing XP..
2x..(dirty
install). cause they didnt' uninstall drivers, etc..(but who
knew. I was
just doing what the tech had told me to do).. Anyway, on Monday
nite, I
downloaded the patch..

So, on Tues morning. Figured I was "good to go". NOPE..

After sending out one or two emails. I would get.. "out of
memory"..

So, another tech.. at Dell.. ordered for me.. SR' CD's.(which
came this
morning).. they are a picture image. of my entire hard
drive.(so I've been
told).

Anyway, on Tues nite, I WANTED my computer.. so this same tech.
said, it
would take several hours.. but he would be happy to help me.
and we would
"only install the basics".. I said Fine. as long as I have
email, and
internet access.. until the SR Cd's arrive..

So we did that on Tues nite, and yesterday, Wed.. was a good
day. LOVE THE
COMPUTER.. This 17" ultra sharp digital screen is just
AMAZING..

Anyway, yesterday afternoon, I had called my sales rep(at
Dell). to ask
about books.(cause with my other computer(Gateway- from 5 years
ago). I had
about 7 manuals..(not that I ever looked at them). LOL
and with this.. Only got ONE.. So I was concerned.. But he
said, thats the
only one they send.

Anyway, he ordered for me.. A TECH. to come out.. once I get
these SR
Cds.(which I got this morning) and the tech will install them..
and also
check out the entire system.. to make sure - everything is up
and running
properly..

Hopefully the tech will also install the firewall. and patch
for me.. so I
dont' get that darn "wor*" again.

So, I was very surprised that they're sending a tech out. cause
the other
day. the tech at Dell. said it would be an easy install.. and
it would take
me no time..(this takes about 30 minutes) and he said, that
these SR CD"s.
are like, GOLD.. and even used the expression.. You will need
them sometime
in the future.. cause "Yes, Virginia.(as in yes Virginia there
IS a Santa
Claus).. vir**, wor**. and crashes DO happen. and this way,
these factory
SR's.. are just putting one in after another. and they're
already configured
for you.. Vs. what we did the other nite, which took almost 3
hours. and
just loaded in the basics..

So, I have all the other CD's that came with the computer.. but
he said,
these are GOLD. and will make a restore.. EASY.. when /- NOT
IF.. Needed..
LOL

So, so far, ,I'm pleased with Dell..and really do love my new
system.. Once
it's up and running properly.. I'll be much happier, but for
right now. at
least I can browse. and do emails.
