Meri, that does sound a lot like me. I have tried playing around with my diet too. I had been a vegan for several years, so it isn't lactose intolerance. Recently I have tried eating some dairy (yogurt and kefir.) I have tried adding eggs too. I stopped eating grains in case it was gluten intolerance (although I never ate too many grains anyway.) For the past few years I ate an extremely low-fat diet. My endo actually suggested eating more fat because he thought maybe my amenorrhea was due to a lack of dietary fat. So for a little while I was eating almond butter, tahini and olive oil. But the weight gain has made me paranoid and now I am afraid to eat much other than vegetables. I have tried not eating at all, and in fact I had the worst diarrhea ever after 3 weeks of no food, which makes me think maybe it's not food related at all. I also did not lose weight while not eating. Were you ever able to lose weight? I do take vitamins, and in fact lately I have developed a fixation on finding supplements that might help me. Vitamins, minerals, algae, wheatgrass, probiotics, digestive enzymes, cold liver oil, essential fatty acids, protein powders, you name it I've tried it. Supplements seem to make up the bulk of my diet right now. Still gaining weight though.... Jack, I have thought of carcinoid syndrome, because it is associated with MEN and I have been researching MEN. I will check the site you mentioned. I know it's very rare though, as is MEN. Sometimes I am not sure where to draw the line between being determined and proactive in finding a diagnosis for myself, and getting caught up in the "slippery slope" that self-diagnosis can become (you know, with every super-rare thing you read about, you think, "Hey, I have that symptom! It must be THAT!" And you wind up convinced that you have 17 extremely rae diseases all occurring simultaneously.) |
