Lee,
may I reiterate what Minnie said. Acromegaly is a progressive disease. You do not wake up one morning with all of the symptoms. You may be in the early stages or have remnant activity from the first ademona. As far as your hands are concerned some acromegliacs have problems and some don't. The Carpal Tunnel problem is the clue there. My first symptom was sweating, second symptom was I outgrew my glasses. Each person is different. If your "specialist" follows a tight formula, I suggest you move on after your suppression tests are in. My suppression test was done incorrectly the first time. The results were also interpreted incorrectly. I am also one of those unfortunates where by they can't find the tumor. Not all tumors show up on MRI. Mri machines vary greatly in their sensitivity. They run the gamut from .3 Tesla to 3 Tesla. I have also had a dynamic spin MRI. It also could be an ectopic tumor (elsewhere in your body). Since you have mild lactation you might mention Dostinex treatment to your physician. Dostinex works in 20-30% of the cases to suppress GH and PRL when the tumor is cosecreting those two hormones. If you do infact have acromegaly then catching it early is absolutely terrific. Docs who want to wait until a great deal of damage is done to begin treatment are incompetent. The current standard for suppresstion is less than 1, my state teaching hospital is still using less that 4 as the standard. I ended up going to a specialist on the coast who is up to date.
Hopefully some of our Michigan patients can point you in the right direction. Keep us posted.
