This is the first time I've had a chance to get online. It was so nice to see your replies, thank you! Minnie, I read your information/symptoms list when my dr first mentioned acromegaly. I thought it was one of the best I've seen. Jean, if it's acromegaly, I'm in the same boat as you, MRI shows no tumor. It was done at the University of Michigan and they're pretty confident. I do have "Empty Sella Syndrome" presumably from my previous surgery. PT, I have seriously thought that if this isn't acromegaly, I need a "brow lift"!! I do have some news. The results of my GTT are in (they made the first batch out). I also got my third IGF-1 result. It was 616, slightly higher than the other two. The results of the GTT were very strange. When I had the test done, I became very sick the last 30 minutes. I had a horrible headache, severe nausea and felt generally "drunk". I reported it to my dr. He said that the last glucose level was 62, so it shouldn't have been a hypoglycemic reaction. Plus, when I ate it didn't help much. The GH portion was as follows: Baseline Draw: 2.3 2nd: .5 3rd: .5 4th: .2 Final Draw: 5.8 My endo mentioned that about 30% of people with acromegaly have a "parodoxial" rise in the GH, instead of suppression. But he doesn't know if it typically goes down first, and then goes up. He says maybe my sickness WAS hypoglycemia, which could affect GH, but my level should have been 50 or below (it was 62). I had a GTT in all 3 of my pregnancies, and never had any trouble before. He called the Pituitary Clinic and made an appointment for me on Oct 18. with the specialist I saw before. Anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences? |
