your nose will have a tendancy to 'flatten out' or widen out, the jawline will become a bit more pronounced with a jutting out look, teeth have a tendancy to develop spaces between them, you will have a tendancy to develop brow ridges in the skull (Think of a picture of a neandethal with heavy brow line- only not so severe). The hands and feet will develop what looks like 'sausage fingers' - shorter and stubby looking. Things like tennis elbow and carpal tunnel go along with this. Soft tissue organs will swell. Early stage acromegally is kind of hard to detect featurewise. Perhaps look at a pictue of you when you were say 5-10 years younger and see if you don't notice some facial changes (other than the puffy eyes- I mean more like bone changes in browline or the nose or jaw) It's aweful hard to tell though if there is only slight changes. The changes are just so gradual that we don't even recognize them happening. Even family members won't recognize it. Another sign/symptom of acromegally is sleep apnea due to swelling. If you snore loudly at night, this can be an indication. I snored terrible before my operation which cleared up some after the operation- the change was almost immediate as the swelling went down quickly If you have acromegally, hoefully you're catching it in the early stages and can correct it before any of these changes take place. If you do have some slight soft tissue swelling, the good thing is that it will correct itself quickly once your levels of IGF go down |
