Ok...week three has come and gone...I have now had 15 treatments of 1.8Gy (so a total of 27Gy). So far I feel fine, no headaches or any other radiation type symptoms. However, the decadron is starting to casue some insomnia and I have gained about 10 pounds becasue I am constantly hungry. Both of those side affects where listed as probable by my Doctor. She is taking me down from 4mg decadron to 2mg on tuesday so hopefully that will help and be uneventful. Charlie, It looks like we are in this together. The Novalis (not Novartis - thats a drug company) is a linear accelerator with focused X-Ray beams. It also uses a multi-leaf colimeter for beam shaping to help spare the surrounding tissue (i.e. optic chiasm, brain stem, optic nerve). The beam shaping is very interesting and I can see it constantly changing shape while I am being treated. When Dr. Post resected what he could he left the tumor in almost an "L" shape around the carotid and the Novalis is able to shape the beam to that L...very cool technology. Like you are I am also lucky to have a wonderful staff of Doctors at Mt. Sinai that are on top of everything, answer my questions, no matter how many times I ask the same ones. Even My radiation therapist and the tech team have been even wonderful. So, so far so good..now I am crossing my fingers that is works, and that the tumor is controlled and stops secreting GH.
