I started using Unix seriously on Solaris. I wanted to have the same kind
of experience on a commodity PC, and Linux was the easiest way...

> Who influenced you into using Linux, if any?

Alvin C. Valera, an old friend from the computer networks lab at UP Dil.
EEE Dept.

Louie Lagdameo III, who used to be administrator for the Diliman
Networking project back in 1995...

Professor Rafael Ramirez, who had taught the Unix and Networking class I
took back in first sem 95-96.

> Where did you first learn about Linux?

Partly from my work at Dilnet and also from programming classes I took at
the University in my freshman year.

> How did you get your copy of Linux?

Alvin lent me a distro CD of Slackware 3.0. He never got it back so I
still have it :) Anyone interested in relics from the early days of
Linux?

> When did you first hear about Linux?

Second semester of school year 1994-1995, freshman year of college.

> When did you actually use Linux for the first time?

First C programming class at school, 2nd sem. SY 1994-1995.

> When did you install Linux on your own 'puter?

A year later, about late 1995, after I got my first decent computer
(P-133, 8mb RAM).

> Why did you decide to try Linux out?

I fell in love with the Unix philosophy when I first got seriously exposed
to it in an elective class I took quite by accident. I saw Linux as a way
to get Unix on my own machine. Also, I had just gotten a Pentium Classic
machine at the time and wanted something to make it flex its muscles a bit
:)

> Why do you still use Linux? or Why do you no longer use Linux?

Well, it's the perfect tool for the job I do...

The way it brings power back to the user. I love the feel of being in
control of every aspect of my system, rather than forcing you to trust a
company which has repeatedly shown itself to be insensitive to the needs
of its users.

It's also the best platform in the world to develop software... :)
