> What got you started in Linux?
Was given shell access at an ISP back in Zamboanga but being online cost too
much. Installed mkLinux (like ancient Slackware) to learn Unix. :)
Stopped using it after 1 week because I couldn't do anything useful with it.
Getting into the Ateneo residence halls, I had my chance to play with Linux
once again, albeit this time with a better machine and a better distro.
> Who influenced you into using Linux, if any?
William Yu
Doc Pablo Manalastas
(Had some experience with mkLinux prior to that)
> Where did you first learn about Linux?
Websites advertising "free Unix". :)
> How did you get your copy of Linux?
For mkLinux, I asked my ISP to download it. For RedHat, borrowed a CD from
William.
> When did you first hear about Linux?
1997/1998. Some time the same time I tried out BeOS PR5.
> When did you actually use Linux for the first time?
I started "seriously" working with Linux when I got into the Ateneo
residence halls when William Yu had me install Linux on one of the Pentium
boxes. :)
> When did you install Linux on your own 'puter?
Year 2000, LinuxPPC 2000 c/o Rene Torres.
> Why did you decide to try Linux out?
Configurable, enterprise-level, free. Were it not for GNU/Linux or *BSD, I'd
have to find a powerful enough computer to run WindowsNT.
> Why do you still use Linux? or Why do you no longer use Linux?
I still use Linux because it works for me.
> What is your favorite thing about Linux?
Control and freedom to explore/modify to your heart's content. That backed
with the whole open source community, too. :)
