>What got you started in Linux?

i wanted to use a "real OS" for programming, and after experiencing the
wonders of DJGPP (GCC on MS-DOG) i wanted more o' that.

>Who influenced you into using Linux, if any?

andy tanenbaum!! the first "UNIX" i tried was Minix 3.something on a
386DX-40 at the lab in UP EE. but Minix was lame, and i almost immediately
discovered a copy of Slackware 2.0 (or was it 2.2) with a 1.2.0 kernel on
ftp.engg.upd.edu.ph so I downloaded that and..

XEyes and OLVWM on a 386!! my lab adviser was pretty impressed, because
before that we were just using Suns.

>Where did you first learn about Linux?

Ching Chua.

>How did you get your copy of Linux?

As stated above, downloaded it from UP CS.

>When did you first hear about Linux?

The guys at CNL in UP were talking about it.. but I thought it was "toy"
UNIX because I was using Solaris already at the time.

>When did you actually use Linux for the first time?

Sometime in September 1995, on that 8MB 386DX-40.

>When did you install Linux on your own 'puter?

March 1996. It was Slackware 3.0 on an 8MB 486DX2-80. My previous 'puter
was a 2MB 386SX-40 and I wasn't eager to stress it (running DJGPP on that
2MB box was excruciatingly painful).

>Why did you decide to try Linux out?

Because there was the cachet of having my very own UNIX box, and not
having to beg for root access.

>Why do you still use Linux? or Why do you no longer use Linux?

Because it makes me l33t hax0r!! :-)

Seriously, I use it every day in my job. I've deliberately become cut off
from 90% of the ICT world because I don't know how to develop/work on
Win32 platforms. So basically it's survival.. but it's lot of fun too.

I definitely buy into the philosophy of Free Software. That's why I buy
hardware whose vendors are Linux supporters. I believe Linux and Free
Software are most appropriate for countries like ours. And denying
Billgatus of Borg some revenue can't really hurt.

>What is your favorite thing about Linux?

/etc and all the wonders you can do with it. Perl too. But these are
UNIX-isms in general. I'm not dogmatic about my UNIX flavors.
