#_ Missing the point here. I wasn't advocating something like LFS. I was
#_ advocating modifying an existing distro (mdk or rhat) to suit the needs of
#_ a normal office. It would include pre-integrated versions of
#_
#_ LTSP, central authentication via pam/ldap/samba, staroffice productivity,
#_ possibly a simple web based payroll system.. that can run on existing
#_ hardware/
#_
#_ As another post said, "where do we start?" My answer to that is create a
#_ viable alternative first, and then do the lobbying when it's done, and
#_ implemented in several pilot sites. In my mind there is no distro that
#_ can be thought of as tailored towards the small/medium office integration.
#_
#_ It's all in the form of "it's all there in the distro, you just have to do
#_ the configuration and research to put them all together in one cohesive
#_ system"
#_
#_ I'm saying let's do that, package it in a modified distro, and deploy it,
#_ make an example of it.

I get Ian's point and I agree with it. Make a CD (I won't call it a distro)
tailor made for the particular government office desktop. Stick it in the
cdrom drive, run the autoinstall and presto... ready to use out of the box.

Once we have something to show off we can start lobbying.

OK folks, let's meet somewhere and plan it some more. With a little kape
here... konting beer diyan...  ;->

We don't have to reinvent the wheel, just get it rolling.
