Derek:
"I'd like to hear you play sometime," Derek told her. "The Bach I think,"
he added a smile touching the sides of his mouth. "Perhaps the other too,
afterwards." He was quiet for a moment as he considered the question of
religion. "The interest was already there, I think, but both she and my
sister are so devoted to their faith, something I never was. I remember
asking her one day why she believed what she believed the Kremers down the
lane believed something entirely different, they were Jewish. She said it
was just a matter of faith. However, I was more interested in facts, in
what it was these people had faith in and why. I knew what my family
believed. My mother said that she did not know if I'd ever discover the
why, but that I could learn about the beliefs and customs and that she
thought it was a good idea for me to do so, to help me understand others.
She'd seen the atrociosity of the War," he added thoughtfully. "So, I did
and once I started I began to look as many different ones as I could find.
I found it fascinating. My mother encouraged it, the research and
comparisons. Though, thinking back, she might have been hoping that somehow
seeing other people absorb in faith, would make me more inclined to do so
myself." It was odd talking about his mother like this to anyone other than
Ingrid. He usually did not discuss his family with anyone, or at least not
often. That was a private thing he normally chose to keep private.

The readhead scowled at her friend. "Well, if that what it was it was the
wrong answer. Not that it is any of her business anyway." Sam sighed, "I'm
not much on the guard dog attitude."
