If you find it more stable for your set-up, that's fine. But I should point out that I have been downloading thousands of images via a Lexar Firewire reader and an IBM PC Card adaptor for well over two years using Mac OS9 and OSX and have only ever had about two occasions where the download failed or had a problem, and that was solved by simply restarting the mac. So, I would not like people to think that this method was somehow "unstable". It most certainly isn't.
