It appears to be a bug, that any flag should appear. The reason one appears,
is if you have more than one keyboard/language in use. If you open up System
prefs/international/input menu and click any language, then unclick it, you
should be left with only British. The flag should then dissapear.
I had l a look at mine (the latest version of OSX, installed last week), and it had a brit flag flying. Turns out the yank option was laos ticked for some reason (bug or default?).....I changed it to just brit and flag disappears from display....
