At the risk of stating the obvious (and no doubt upsetting someone :-)
Would the obvious thing not be, to take the printer into a Cancom branch,
Kensignton or Croydon are both in London, get them to print a file on it,
using their in-store computers and their file, then see if the lines still
appear? Or even take it to Canon themselves. They still have their stores
don't they? There used to be one near Green Park tube. Or take it to the
Canon Service centre in Elstree. Then they can demonstrate in front of you
whether it works or not.

I've not followed this thread completely, but it doesn't seem that
complicated. The printer produces white lines, correct?

So either

a/ These lines are normal, and appear on all Canon i9000 printers. Perhaps
you're being over critical (I'm not saying you are, its just that sometimes
people see things as faults, when in fact they're not, and no-on else
notices them - The good old lines on a CRT monitor recently came up on
another thread, very normal on most monitors made, however the person
posting thought it was a major fault and was about to change the monitor :-)

b/ The lines are a fault, in which case Cancom will change the printer for
another one (again!)

Surely a/ can be easily checked by sending a print to Canon and have them
confirm whether the lines are normal. One would obviously send more than one
print, so that it could not be blamed on a file problem. Then if the lines
are confirmed as being abnormal, Cancom or Canon can replace your printer.

OR

have I missed something? Do these lines only appear at certain times or on
certain prints? As I understood it (perhaps I read it wrongly) they are on
all your prints? I know its frustrating and you no doubt feel like you're
going mad, we've all been there :-) However the solution seems simple.
Which part of London are you in? If worst comes to worst there must be
another member of the list close by, could you not take the monitor round to
someone else and try it on their system? Though I still think it would be
just as easy and quicker to take it into Cancom.
