Most likely the improvement came from copying the ini and rcs files from your
client's computers.  This would remove inconsistancies and poor configuration
choices that may have crept into your versions of these files.

It is unlikely that messing with the registry would have made any difference.
Protel 99SE does not really use the registry for anything significant (although
third party servers might).
