I wonder why they trust the word of a garage rather than the owner? Or even themselves? They told me they would accept a statement from a garage of the chassis number (and the garage had to fit the chassis plate), but wouldn't accept that I could fit the plate and they could check the number --- absolutely bizarre! I just ignored them, fitted the chassis plate and they checked the number - job done. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mark Miles To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, May 12, 2011 3:18 PM Subject: Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: 2+2 Zetec conversion
I have just got off the phone from what has to be my least stressful call ever to the DVLA. The guy that I spoke to informed me that the only information they want is a letter from a garage on headed paper informing them of the new engine capacity and the engine number. I informed him that an attempt to clean up the number to read it could render it totally unreadable and that would look a bit dodgy. His response was best effort and the letter are all that will be required. The other thing he took great pleasure in informing me of was the increase in the cost of my road fund licence. Still, I will be able to get to the DVLA office at Theale much quicker!! :) Mark Miles Manager Bar Square 8 Market Place Wokingham Berkshire RG40 1AL 07522 67 60 57 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Mark Miles <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wed, 11 May, 2011 22:20:21 Subject: Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: 2+2 Zetec conversion Thanks Jin, I will contact the dvla tomorrow and see if I can get a definitive answer from them. Having dealt with both them and vosa on a number of occasions I suspect I will be reaching for the valium before the end of the call. It would appear that the answers and service you get from both show a distinct lack of consistency. If I contact the office that will be dealing with the transfer maybe I will actually find out what they require of me. I look forward to my car being reliable enough to actually travel to meet some of you sometime. This was all only 2 months ago so they should still be ok. I was informed by somebody at Stoneleigh that the DVLA are cracking down on this and you must now be able to prove where the engine came from i.e. what the original car was. I don't know how true this is but thought I would mention it. Luckily I have the car that my diesel came from so hopefully will not be a problem. > > Russell > > On 10/05/2011 15:47, Mark Miles wrote: > 260hp 2+2... WOW!! mine is lively with a 1.4 and 62hp, yours must be nuts. I got a loom adapter with the engine which came from Kelvin in Salisbury. I believe you had some bits off him too. The subframe mods are not a major issue. I don't know what the donor car was as the engine was bought from someone who bought it for a Q. I have seen your website, though not recently. I will go and take another look now. > > Mark Miles > > Manager > Bar Square > 8 Market Place > Wokingham > Berkshire > RG40 1AL > > 07522 67 60 57 > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > From: Jim Hearne <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > Sent: Tue, 10 May, 2011 15:18:32 > Subject: Re: [Quantum Owners] 2+2 Zetec conversion > > All the mods required have been covered in this group in the past, they may also be in the FAQ on the club web site. > I presume you've seen my web sitewww.quantums.info, some pictures on there of a Zetec in a 2+2 plus another page on fitting a Zetec in a Mk2 Fiesta. > > Main things are: > Spaceframe mods to clear crank pulley, top of cylinder head and possibly exhaust downpipe. > Modification of the CVH top engine mounting bracket to fit the Zetec. > Change to injection fuel tank or external swirl pot with high pressure fuel pump. > Additions to the wiring. > Depending on the engine donor don't forget about the PATS anti theft system.. > > What car is the engine coming from ? > > I've got standard XR2 drums on the rear of my 260bhp ZVH turbo 2+2 but i've Willwood 4 pot calipers on the front. > There is no weight on the rear of a 2+2 so i don't think upgrading the rear brakes will help. > > Jim > > -------------------------------------------------- > From: "taximark" <[email protected]> > Sent: Tuesday, May 10, 2011 2:58 PM > To: "Quantum Owners Group" <[email protected]> > Subject: [Quantum Owners] 2+2 Zetec conversion > > > Today starts the conversion from 1.4cvh to 1.8i Zetec.
