Good case study Duane. Anyone who did this in Royal Rangers in NSW would immediately be sent home from the camp, and would not be welcome at a state event again. It would be the responsibility of the State Commander to inform the leaders Senior Pastor of the event.
There is *NO CIRCUMSTANCE* where smacking another persons child on camp or at Rangers is acceptable - even with permission. Never. Ever. The grandfather erred in my judgement by not giving the child a reason for putting on the shoes - "you will cut your feet to shreds on the blackberries" seems appropriate. Perhaps give the instruction and explanation twice, then pick the child up and remove them from the situation and the danger that lay nearby. Victor.
