*I'd start by makeing it clear that the Outpost is going to hold it's meetings off the Church sight in the Community. Let the YOUTH go to both RR and Uth church.. I'd ask permission and seek the blessing of the Church board to also contact BSA and charter as a "Church based youth orginization" under the Venture scout program, so as to be welcome to use their camps and facilities in the region. I'd be honest to the BSA as to what my agenda was, and agree to what they suggest practical to meet both programs policies. I would order the informational flyers from GPH and the Leaders books and whatever media is needed to show how "things ought to run" then take a ad in a Christian publication or announce the first meeting on the Christian radio station. what do you do? --------------- The first few meetings are information sessions, and overview of the *Program with a invitation to some outdoor event, where "come as you are" and "Be what you can be" is the ethic.. I'd have my "OP council" fund a lunch.. and *Charge a modest fee no more than the price of the closest Burger King meal<G> At this event, I'd invite regional Royal Ranger boys to share what the program has ment to them. At every turn.. I'd want the orgaization to run smooth, even if it is kept small. I'd want basic needs met in a way that shows forsight and thoughtfullness to details. I'd collect names and by the next meeting generate ID Tags for Boys and a color for Adults.. I'd begin a "Phone list" of members and contact people. *The boys would be formed into small groups and enguage in a game made-up to show who holds the potential to become a leader- not neccisarily a winner<G> and then they elect a Patrol Leader. *I'd present these boys a Leadership packet, and a RR T-shirt and Hat saying "Patrol Guide" It would suggest a agenda for the next patrol meeting. *Then we would meet at a Outdoor campfire as a group, and sing some silly songs and lead into some reflective songs ect. Then a *BRIEF GENERIC DEVOTION *closed by a Group cheer! What items do you buy? $10,000 seems too much funding.. Humm.. *Now I'd buy some OP numbers, Patrol boxes and camp cooking stuff.. but zero tents! This is just me, but I'd hand the GPH catalog to the parent and tell then I'm not in the dry goods business<G> T-shirt is fine with me to start.
