Of course Howard wouldn't stand down - and I, too, was thinking of the
example set by him and his ministers during the various rorts allegations
(though Labor doesn't come out with much cred on this score either).

Why pick on Clarke?  I wasn't, though Karen might have been.  Interestingly,
no-one in the Howard govt has picked on him in this regard either.  I think
Burke said he should stand down.

But the comment stands - if I would expect Howard to stand down, I should
expect the same behaviour of Clarke.  To argue that he shouldn't because
Howard probably wouldn't is a dangerous route, isn't it?  At the very least
it is saying that Clarke is maintaining the same low standards as Howard.
Is it really picking on Clarke to suggest that he should maintain higher
standards than the dread Johnny?
